Guide To The First-Ever Durango Bluegrass Train

The inaugural Durango Bluegrass Train rolls out this weekend, and excitement is building for an unforgettable experience in the San Juan Mountains. Featuring live bluegrass performances, historic rail travel, breathtaking scenery, local craft beverages, and an incredible atmosphere, the first-ever event is set to be one of the highlights of the summer in Durango.
Whether you’re traveling in for the weekend or joining us for a single evening ride, here’s everything you need to know before climbing aboard.
Weekend Weather
The forecast for the weekend is calling for mostly sunny skies, daytime highs in the 80s, and overnight lows in the 40s.
Please note:
The train operates rain or shine
Two train coaches are open-air gondolas
Mountain weather can change quickly
We recommend bringing:
A light jacket or raincoat
Layers for cooler evening temperatures
Closed-toe, closed-heel shoes (sandals are not recommended)

Getting Here
Driving Conditions

Parking
Event parking is located next to the rail yard at the corner of U.S. Highway 550 and College Drive, just west of McDonald’s.
Parking fees:
$10 — Car, truck, or motorcycle
$20 — RV, bus, trailer, or oversized vehicles
Please note:
Parking passes are required for each day your vehicle remains in the lot
Dining Before the Train
We highly recommend eating dinner before boarding the Durango Bluegrass Train.
Downtown Durango offers a fantastic selection of restaurants, breweries, bars, and quick dining options located just minutes from the Train Depot.

Located just a short walk from the depot, 2nd Street Deli & Spirits is a favorite local hangout offering hot and cold sandwiches, cocktails, beer, wine, and a laid-back atmosphere perfect for pre-train dining.

3:00 PM – 6:30 PM
All guests must exchange their tickets for wristbands before boarding. Wristbands are required to access the train.
To avoid long lines before departure, we recommend checking in early.

Train Departure: 7:00 PM sharp
Duration: Approximately 3.5 hours round-trip

Return time to the depot is approximate
